Herbs He’ll Actually Eat: Father’s Day Kitchen Medicine & DIY Spice Blends

Father’s Day doesn’t always need to be about neckties and novelty mugs. If you’re looking for a way to show appreciation for the dads in your life—while also sneaking in a little wellness—why not gift something they’ll actually use (and eat)?

This year, I’m inviting you to try a simple, fun approach: kitchen medicine.

Many women I work with are the wellness leaders in their homes. They’re the ones reading labels, managing remedies, and planning meals. But when it comes to getting the men in their lives to actually take herbs, it can be… a challenge.

That’s why culinary herbs are the perfect solution. This year, try creating some spice blends just for dad and make it an extra special Father's Day!

Everyday Herbs for Men’s Health

You don’t need exotic ingredients to support the dads in your life. These six common kitchen herbs are loaded with flavor and health benefits:

✅ Garlic

Supports the heart and circulation. It’s also anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial.

✅ Black Pepper

Aids digestion, boosts absorption of other herbs (like turmeric), and stimulates circulation.

✅ Rosemary

Good for memory, energy, and mental clarity. Also a powerful antioxidant.

✅ Oregano

Antimicrobial and excellent for the gut. Pairs well with grilled meats and sauces.

✅ Thyme

Great for respiratory support and immunity. Plus, it makes everything taste better.

✅ Turmeric

Anti-inflammatory and liver supportive. Works best when combined with black pepper and fat.

DIY Spice Blend: Steakhouse Rub for Father's Day

This simple blend is perfect for steaks, roasted potatoes, or even veggie kabobs:

  • 2 tbsp garlic powder

  • 1 tbsp onion powder

  • 2 tsp dried rosemary

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1 tsp ground black pepper

  • 1 tsp sea salt

  • ½ tsp cayenne (optional)

To use: Rub onto meat or veggies before grilling. Add olive oil if needed for moisture.

To gift: Pour into a small mason jar or spice shaker. Add a handwritten tag that says “Grill Blend – Just for You” or “Happy Father’s Day.”

Add-On Gift: Infused Olive Oil for Grilling

Want to go the extra mile? Pair your spice blend with a homemade infused olive oil that’s perfect for grilling, marinades, or drizzling over roasted veggies.

To make it, add 1–2 tablespoons of dried herbs (like garlic, rosemary, oregano, and black peppercorns) to a clean jar. Pour in 1 cup of high-quality olive oil to cover the herbs completely. Seal the jar and let it sit in a sunny window for 2–4 weeks, shaking gently each day.

After the infusion period, strain the oil through cheesecloth into a clean bottle and refrigerate. It should keep for 1–2 months. For a faster version, gently warm the oil and herbs together in a double boiler for 30–60 minutes (keep the heat under 140°F), then strain and store.

Always use dried herbs when infusing oils for food use to avoid spoilage or risk of botulism. Add a label, tie a ribbon, and you’ve got a delicious, practical, and healthful gift.

Wellness in Every Bite

Whether he’s into grilling, meal prepping, or just eating what you make—this is a great way to add a little herbal goodness without needing capsules or tinctures.

Spices are herbs too—and when used regularly in food, they’re one of the most sustainable ways to build wellness into everyday life.

So this Father’s Day, give the dads you love a simple gift: something made by hand, flavored with care, and good for the whole body.
